A visit to Materuni Village and Waterfalls is a wonderful way to spend a day away from the busy town. The walk to Materuni Waterfall gives you a chance to experience Tanzania’s natural beauty, making it a great way to either prepare for your Kilimanjaro climb or relax your muscles afterward.
The tour begins with a scenic walk around the area near the waterfall, where you’ll see local fruit trees like avocados, mangoes, lemons, and bananas. You’ll also learn about the village’s history, traditions, agriculture, and way of life. When you reach the waterfall, you can cool off in the natural pool, so don’t forget to bring your swimsuit!
Next, you’ll visit the nearby village, which is surrounded by coffee plantations. The villagers will show you how they grow and process coffee, from the beans to the cup. You’ll have the chance to join in singing and dancing with the Chagga people as they grind, roast, and brew the coffee. Afterward, the villagers will serve you a delicious Chagga lunch, allowing you to enjoy local flavors while soaking in the culture.
Materuni is about an hour from either Moshi or Arusha, making it an easy day trip for a hot lunch and a full cultural experience in the heart of the Chagga community
